Spider!

A month and a half back, Fahim and I were returning home when we saw this truck. ... Cuz I really don't think we're in an alternate universe right now, you know? As it turns out, we got our answer when the car we were in passed the truck.

I am, apparently, quite clueless.

Mosquitoes bite me - and they bite me by the dozens to hundreds while everyone else around me is left completely alone - and the white part swells up to between a half inch to an inch in diameter with the red bit sometimes 4-6 inches in diameter. ... Well, you get...

Favourite Photos of 2006

Cows are everywhere here. Cows that wander freely through neighborhoods and even in heavy traffic are common here. Vehicles driving around cows in traffic are common here. Even cows that trot through traffic and neighborhoods are common here. Right. Getting the picture? Cows + Sri Lanka + roaming free = normal. Yup.    ...

Project #365 Day 88 Is that a wasp’s nest?

I generally make it a rule to stay as far away from biting insects as I can. I tend to be allergic to most of them. Yeah, not good, right? So why, then, did I voluntarily take a picture of this bug? Which, by the way, happens to be a wasp? Could it be...

Project #365 Day 87 Buzz!!!!

Somehow, and no, I don’t know how this happened, I managed to not take a single photograph yesterday. Not even a blurry one. None. Nothing. And I didn’t realize it until this afternoon. The shame! The horror! What WILL I do? Ah well. Enjoy today’s bee, then.

Project #365 Day 86 Fifty five, fifty six, fifty seven, fifty…

I don’t even know why it’s called a centipede. It doesn’t have a hundred legs, yet, centipede it is apparently called. I haven’t been able to identify what, specifically, this creature is. If anyone knows what it is, please speak up and let me know. Meanwhile, I’ve found these things in all three of...

Project #365 Day 84 Insects and Reflections

Fahim’s sister and her children were in town for Eid. Naturally, with three children old enough to walk/run/look at everything around, we saw this bug. I’ve photographed this type of bug before, but this is my favourite picture of it. Please feel free to comment and critique.

Project #365 Day 76 Red Eyes

I wish I knew what kinds of bugs we had hanging around our house. This guy looks so much like a mosquito in terms of body shape, but the colours are all wrong. A distant cousin, perhaps? All I know is that, if he never bites me, then I’m okay with him hanging around...

Project #365 Day 71 The Dying of the Lime Tree

My poor lime tree. Okay, it’s really my mother in law’s lime tree – she planted it and cared for it for its first bunch of years. But in my heart, the lime tree is mine. I love limes and wish this tree would reach the point where it was mature enough to bear...
