I Need My Sleep

No doubt Fahim slept through this. In fact, I know he did. I, however, was not quite so lucky. At first. (And this, kids, is what we call foreshadowing. Can you say "foreshadowing"? Goooood.)

Our next door neighbors had a party. There were a lot of people at it on both floors of their house. Dozens, if not actually close to a hundred. Well, our lights were off because we were trying to sleep, and all their lights were on, windows and doors open, so it’s not like they were trying to keep it a secret.

They served food at around 9:45, and that’s when the noise really picked up. Clinking of dishes, loud chattering, dropped dishes, things like that. They were also quite obviously enjoying themselves. I’m happy for them.

I finally clued in to the fact that I have ear plugs for just such purposes. Duh! I threw them in - well, no, okay, I didn’t throw them in, I did it properly. I squeezed the little suckers and shoved them in my ear canal as far as they’d go. Then I put on my mask (CPAP machine. For Obstructive Sleep Apnea. For more on that, go to my 21 August entry. Anyway, with the ear plugs, I fell alseep and, more importantly, stayed asleep. I didn’t even hear the alarm go off at 4 am to wake Fahim.

Oh Joy. Oh Bliss. Lo and Behold, she slept, and there was peace in all the land.
