An Uneventful Day

In the middle of the night, I woke up choking. I mean sitting straight up, gasping for air, choking. I panicked. I didn’t know what was going on.
I thought I smelled something wrong with the air coming out of my cpap machine, so I turned it off, waited a few minutes, turned it back on, smelled it again. Something smelled funny to me. I put the mask back on and tried falling asleep again. I was nearly asleep when I started choking again.
Fine. That’s it. No more cpap machine for the rest of the night, and tomorrow, or rather, in the morning, Carmen forgive me, I’m tearing it apart and seeing if there’s anything wrong on the inside.
Today was a mostly uneventful day. I stayed home, took a nap, and watched more 24. Seriously uneventful day.
For lunch and supper, we had fish curry (remember the fish we bought off the back of the guy’s motorcycle?) with curry powder, chili powder, salt, pepper, and coconut milk. We also made vegetable curry with potatoes, carrot, onion, garlic, tomatoes, capsicum, and green chillies, curry powder, chili powder, salt.
I took the cpap machine apart - after Fahim had to go to Food City to buy a screw driver. Couldn’t use a knife, which I normally would in an emergency, because the screws are set in a couple of inches. So yeah, it really does have to be a screwdriver. So Fahim buys one, and I unscrew the cover, lift off the cover, and start looking around for any signs of burning or melting. I find nothing. No smells. No marks. No carbon residue. Nothing. I try to put it back together.
I had taken out one of those ribbon cables, but it came out not the way I was expecting it. It came out not with the end attached, but out of the end. I’m probably not explaining myself very well except in my own mind, but does it help if I say that all the wires were exposed?
I tried pushing them back into the holes, but gave up. I was tired, I was cranky, I was irritable. Fahim to the rescue. Computer geek that he is, it was no great shakes to get them in. I turn around, and he tells me it’s done. What the . . . But it’s now all put together, the mask, hoses, filters are cleaned, I turn it on, and voila! no odor.
So the question of the day is. . . was something wrong with my cpap machine? Or was this a nightmare?
Oh, and today, I took a nap. Hours later, I woke up.
Yup. And that’s the extent of my day. Oh joy, oh bliss. I love relaxing.
